Fighting Bacteria as a Community – Keeping Everyone Healthy

The concept of fighting bacteria & infections as a community is becoming more and more relevant as we see new threats from bacteria to our health , and especially at time of writing the threat of swine influenza.

The basic idea behind fighting bacteria and infections as a community is to reduce and eventually stop the use of any sort of antibiotics to treat bacteria caused illnesses. We all want the quick fix but with more and more people heading looking for antibiotics at the first sign of a cold these bacteria are developing an antibiotic resistance and evolving rapidly.

The Super bug

With more and more people using antibiotics this means the virus or bacteria is know very used to fighting off these antibiotics until with antibiotic resistance they evolve to a state where the antibiotics will be deemed ineffective. Which now leaves us with a choice try and fight it without antibiotics which could take a long time, or produce stronger antibiotics to treat the new strain of the bacteria.

And there you have it the super bug is born, a bacteria or virus so powerful that nothing can stand in its way.

As a community fighting these bacteria and infections without the use of antibiotics will give the bacteria no reason to evolve and leave it in its primitive form. Which means we can fight it off easily with a couple weeks rest.

You will find that alot of communities are already trying to do this, as you will start to find it harder to get your GP to prescribe your antibiotics as they have been directed to give out less.

Obsession with Cleanliness

Another worrying area is the huge increase in the use of hospital grade disinfectants , cleaners and bleaches. We have all become so germaphobic that at the very first sign of germs we get out our chemicals and spray the heck out of it. This is doing the same thing giving bacteria the chance to evolve and giving our bodies no chance of building up strength to fight off these bacteria’s naturally.

I dont know what were all afraid of we have hundreds of little bacteria surrounding us everyday some bad and some beneficial and we’ve lived with them for as long as I can remember. :)
