A company in Australia(CSR) has recently launches a range of low gi sugar products (LoGICane). They claim that it has the exact same taste as sugar and the exact same function of sugar:P so you can still put it in your tea. That’s good news I thought it was going to come to life when I put it in my mug.
The low gi sugar came in with a low glycemic index of 50 which isn’t a huge jump from regular sugar which usually comes it at 60 – 65 GI rating, but nevertheless its an improvement and it still comes from natural sugar cane.
What does it mean for Sugar Junkies?
Not a lot really, its pretty much the same thing as regular sugar apart from the fact it wont freak out your organs like the high GI sugar does. It wont produce a huge insulin response and give you that sugar rush then crash. It also means less sugar in your blood stream at any one time.
For people concerned about there weight this may be good news, if you plan on using the energy provided by low GI sugar. The energy you receive will be gradual and over a period of time. Which gives you longer time to work it off and helps avoid it going straight to your thighs.
Its not a huge change really, it can still make you fat like regular sugar its just easier on your body. Its always a good idea to consume your sugar early on in the day to give yourself time to burn it off.
